What Costumes will be Hot for Halloween 2009
Every year when our vendors send us their new Halloween costume catalogs there are always lots of new ones for just released or soon to be released television shows and movies.
We've been selling halloween costumes for many years now. So we have a great deal of experience judging which new ones will be popular and which ones may not. So if you're ready to find out which new characters will be a hit come this Halloween read on.
The first thing to notice is that Star Trek costumes are back. Back with in a big way! Why? In case you live under a rock and haven't already heard, JJ Abrams, famous for the hit tv shows LOST and FRINGE, is making a new Star Trek prequel movie due out sometime in 2009.
Because of this, new Star Trek costumes been created specific to this movie and the classic ones have also been brought back. Original Star Trek and Star Trek: The Next Generation costumes are also being produced and sold again. Say what you will about star trek fans being geeky or whatever, but with JJ Abrams as the mastermind behind the new Star Trek movie it's sure to have mass appeal.
Also in production is another Terminator movie starring Christian Bale. There's also the popular Sarah Connor Chronicles tv series on Fox. The movie Terminator: Salvation is likely to be popular amongst fans of the series. However, T3 was a lackluster sequel. And Christian Bale recently marred his reputation with a nasty tirade on set. But come on, those T600 costumes look awfully cool. We think kids will love them.
The movie based on the classic comic book series, Watchmen, is poised to be a huge success in the theater and in costumes. Both are expected to be popular amongst teens and adults. The comic is from the mid 80's. So much of its fan-base will come from those who were youths during that time. However, with the feature film release due out any day now, it's set to capture a much broader audience to be sure. Superheroes are always a popular choice for halloween costumes. They transcend gender and age stereotypes. Everyone wants to be a hero. And the heros to be this Halloween will be the Watchmen.
Another interesting addition to the costumes this year
is the licensed Elvis collection. We've offered 50's rocker style, elvis-esque costumes for many years, but until now nothing official. The king hasn't released a new recording since 1977 and yet still to this day he's as popular as ever among all age groups. It's for this reason that we expect the new line of officially licensed Elvis Presley costumes and accessories to be extremely popular. The manufactuer was extremely insightful too. As not only did they do Elvis costumes for kids and men, but they also had the vision to create ones for women. If you love Elvis, and who doesn't love Elvis, it's the costume to be this Halloween.
Never to be overlooked is Star Wars. This ubiquitous and ever-evolving movie/tv/costume franchise never wanes in popularity. Year after year it consistently sells very well. The release of the Clone Wars series sparked even greater demand. This year even more Star Wars costumes have been added to the selection. The clone troopers are very popular among young boys. Parents love the baby yoda. The sexy Slave Leia is big with young ladies and their boyfriends too we're sure. But be sure to keep an eye on the new Star Wars Jedi X-wing fighter costumes that are new this year. We suspect its bold colors and heroic associations will make it a favorite this Halloween and many more to come after.
Two retro popular cartoons are also not be overlooked. Strawberry Shortcake and Hello Kitty.
Many parents of young daughters today harbor a nostalgia for the berry scented girl and her fruity gaggle of friends. Strawberry Shortcake costumes were moderately popular last year and are expected to gain considerable cache come Halloween 2009.
Hello Kitty was very popular in the 80's. Faded away in the 90's. And now she's back again with avengence. Since Hello Kitty toys and personal accessories are already extremely popular among tween and teen girls, we expect the costumes to snatched up just as ferociously. Hello Kitty is all set to take the pre-teen and teen girl scene by storm this Halloween.
