Star Trek: Boldy Going Where It's Never Gone Before. or Damn It Jim, I'm a Halloween Costume. Until recently Star Trek was strictly a trekkie and geek domain. But thanx to one wildly talented and optimistic trekkie by the name of J.J. Abrams Star Trek has finally and truly broken into the mainstream. Do you know what that means? Well, yea, lots of money for JJ and Paramount Pictures. But it also means lots and lots of new Star Trek Costumes. What could be better than that? Nothing. Before JJ came out with his blockbuster, record breaking Star Trek Prequel movie, everyone had heard of Star Trek. Everyone knew about Star Trek, but only geeks ever actually watched Star Trek. I don't know why. It's an awesome franchise. The Original Star Trek series was an ahead of it's time brilliant idea. Sadly Gene Roddenberry's imagination was also way ahead of the special fx technology of that time period. However, what it lacked in special fx, it made up for with over the top acting and wild and crazy space cowboy adventures. It even occasionally endeavored to bring out the thinking man in its audience with masterpiece episodes like 'City on the Edge of Forever' that explored the ethical delimnas of space-time travel. The Original Star Trek should've been way more popular and so should the costumes have been. Unfortunately due to improper marketting most regular people (non-trekkies) don't know that Captain James Tiberius Kirk was THE MAN. He got all the chicks. And not just Earth chicks. He got all the alien chicks too. See, if more people knew that, they'd want to be him. Or at least pretend to be him on Halloween. They also didn't know that Mr. Spock was also The Man. With his vulcan death grip and his super freaky mind-meld, he was a fiercesome, yet logical force to be reckoned with through the galaxy. Batman and Iron Man don't got nothing on Mr. Spock. Another important aspect the public sadly missed is that space travel is a fun and exciting frolic. Full of hot alien babes with extra breasts. Crazy battles with funky looking hostile alien races. And let's not forget how much fun those tribbles can be. The cutest, most multiplying intergalactic menace there ever was. Too bad there aren't any tribble costumes. Perhaps, one day, if we're lucky. Star Trek: The Next Generation took those philosophical dabblings of the original Star Trek and built a full seven season hit series with them. The stoic and charmismatic Captain Jean Luc Picard deftly grappled with intergalactic diplomacy, rifts in the space time continuum, ever-present quantum distortions and the omniscient and entertaining nuissance that was the Q being. If you're looking for a heroic, yet understated costume Captain Picard's Red Uniform will do the trick. The Next Generation also gave us Data. The android brain child of Dr. Noonien Soong with aspirations of being human. And even more impressive, the very first Klingon Federation officer in one Mr. Worf. I can't think of a cooler Halloween costume than a Klingon. This fierce warrior race was respected and feared throughout the alpha quandrant. Klingons have a powerful sense of honor, are huge, extremely strong and supremely intelligent. If you want a badass costume. Forget Superman and Wolverine and all those guys. They wouldn't stand a chance against a Klingon Warrior. You want a Klingdon costume for sure. So now you know, Star Trek is awesome. If you want to have an awesome Halloween costume you want a Star Trek costume. |
